Sets Of Numbers –
You are familiar with the following infinite sets of numbers.
1) Set N of natural numbers, i.e., N = {1, 2, 3,……………}
2) Set W of whole numbers, i.e., W = {0, 1, 2, 3, ………….}
3) Set Z of integers, i.e., Z = {………….., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3,………………..}
5) The set of
irrational numbers, such as √3 and π, which cannot be expressed as a quotient
of two integers, and their decimal forms do not terminate or repeat. However, we
can approximate these numbers using terminating decimals, e.g., √2 = 1.414, π =
3.14, √3 = 1.732
-7√5, π, e, √8, √3/2
6) The set of real numbers R includes all the above sets of numbers.
