TO DRAW A LINE SEGMENT OF GIVEN LENGTH USING A RULER -
▪ RULER is used for drawing lines and measuring the length of the line segments.
▪ The ruler is marked in centimeters and inches.
▪ Each centimeter is divided into 10 equal parts. Each part is 1 mm.
To draw a line segment of a given length using a ruler, follow these steps :-
By following these steps, you can draw a line segment of any given length using a ruler.
Example.1) To draw a line segment of length of 6 cm.
STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -
a. Place the ruler on the paper.
b. Mark a point against the zero mark.
c. Mark another point against the 6 cm mark.
d. Keep your pencil at the first point and move it along the edge of the ruler keeping the ruler pressed evenly till the pencil reaches the second point.
e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 6 cm is drawn.
Example.2) To draw a line segment of length of 10 cm.
STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -
a. Place the ruler on the paper.
b. Mark a point against the zero mark.
c. Mark another point against the 10 cm mark.
d. Keep your pencil at the first point and move it along the edge of the ruler keeping the ruler pressed evenly till the pencil reaches the second point.
e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 10 cm is drawn.
Example.3) To draw a line segment of length of 4.5 cm.
STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -
a. Place the ruler on the paper.
b. Mark a point against the zero mark.
c. Place your pencil at the 4 cm mark and then count 5 divisions. Mark another point against the 4.5 cm mark.
d. Keep your pencil at the first point and move it along the edge of the ruler keeping the ruler pressed evenly till the pencil reaches the second point.
e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 4.5 cm is drawn.
Example.4) To draw a line segment of length of 6.3 cm.
STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -
a. Place the ruler on the paper.
b. Mark a point against the zero mark.
c. Place your pencil at the 6 cm mark and then count 3 divisions. Mark another point against the 6.3 cm mark.
d. Keep your pencil at the first point and move it along the edge of the ruler keeping the ruler pressed evenly till the pencil reaches the second point.
e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 6.3 cm is drawn.
