Principal/Rules for Division of Decimal Number by 10, 100, 1000 -
1) Convert any number into decimal number.
2) To divide a decimal number by 10, move the decimal point one place to the left from one place.
3) To divide a decimal number by 100, move the decimal point two places
to the left from one place.
4) To divide a decimal number by 1000, move the decimal point three places to the left from one place.
EXAMPLES: Divide the following by 10, 100 and 1000.
1) 75 2) 3.4
Ans.)
75 = 75.0
1a) 75.0 ÷ 10
= 7.50 or 7.5 (Move decimal point one step left from one place)
1b) 75.0 ÷ 100
= 0.75 (Move decimal point two step left from one places.)
1c) 75.0 ÷ 1000
= 075.0 ÷ 1000 (Add a zero in front of 7 to move the decimal point three steps left from one place.)
= 0.075
2a) 3.4 ÷ 10
= 0.34 (Move decimal point one step left from one place)
2b) 3.4 ÷ 100
= 03.4 ÷ 100 (Add a zero in-front of 3 to move the decimal point two step left from one place.)
= 0.034
2c) 3.4 ÷ 1000
= 003.4 ÷ 1000 (Add 2 zeroes in-front of 3 to move the decimal point three step left from one place.)
= 0.0034
