Properties Of Division -
1) Division is nothing but repeated subtraction.
Example.(a) 32 ÷ 8 = 4
also, 32 - 8 = 24; 24 - 8 = 16; 16 - 8 = 8; 8 - 8 = 0
It shows that, 8 can be subtracted from 32 by four times
Example.(b) 81 ÷ 3 = 27,
Also, 81 - 3 = 78; 78 - 3 = 75; 75 - 3 = 72; 72 - 3 = 69; 69 - 3 = 66; 66 - 3 = 63; 63 - 3 = 60; 60 - 3 = 57; 57 - 3 = 54; 54 - 3 = 51; 51 - 3 = 48; 48 - 3 = 45; 45 - 3 = 42; 42 - 3 = 39; 39 - 3 = 36; 36 - 3 = 33; 33 - 3 = 30; 30 - 3 = 27; 27 - 3 = 24; 24 - 3 = 21; 21 - 3 = 18; 18 - 3 = 15; 15 - 3 = 12; 12 - 3 = 9; 9 - 3 = 6; 6 - 3 = 3; 3 - 3 = 0.
It shows that 3 can be subtracted from 81 by twenty seven times.
2) Division & Multiplication are inverse operations.
Example.(a) 39 ÷ 3 = 13 and 13 X 3 = 39
(b) 49 ÷ 7 = 7 and 7 X 7 = 49
(c) 64 ÷ 4 = 16 and 16 X 4 = 64
(d) 81 ÷ 3 = 27 and 27 X 3 = 81
3) When a non-zero number is divided by itself, the quotient is 1.
Example.(a) 127 ÷ 127 = 1,
(b) 578 ÷ 578 = 1,
(c) 783 ÷ 783 = 1,
(d) 349 ÷ 349 = 1,
4) When 0 (zero) is divided by any non-zero number, then the quotient is 0 (zero).
Example.(a) 0 ÷ 234 = 0,
(b) 0 ÷ 75 = 0,
(c) 0 ÷ 350 = 0,
(d) 0 ÷ 100 = 0,
5) When a number is divided by 1, then the quotient is the number itself.
Example.(a) 125 ÷ 1 = 125,
(b) 249 ÷ 1 = 249,
(c) 350 ÷ 1 = 350,
6) Division of any non-zero number by zero is not possible.
Example.(a) 125 ÷ 0 = Not Possible
(b) 346 ÷ 0 = Not Possible
