FACTORS - PRIME & COMPOSITE NUMBERS

PRIME NUMBERS & COMPOSITE NUMBERS -

Prime & Composite numbers both are very nondetachable part of mathematics, without these mathematics learning must be incomplete.  Now we will clear the concept of Prime & Composite numbers.

PRIME NUMBERS :-

A number which has only two factors, namely one and the number itself is called a prime number. Composite numbers are the numbers having more than two factors, i.e., other than 1 and the number itself.

Example.1)  2 is a prime number as it has only two factors 1 and 2.

2 ÷ 1 = 2.

Factors of 2 are 1 and 2.

COMPOSITE NUMBERS :-

Example.1)  4 is a composite number as it has more than two factors.

4 ÷ 1 = 4

4 ÷ 2 = 2

Factors of 4 are 1, 2 and 4.

Other than 1 and 4, it has a third factor 2 So, 4 is a composite number.

NOTE :-

· One is not a prime number, since it has only one factor.

· Two is the only even prime number.

· 4 is the first composite number.
