MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTION -
To multiply a fraction by a whole number, we multiply the numerator of the fraction by the whole number and the denominator of the fraction by 1. The first product thus obtained becomes the numerator and the second product becomes the denominator of the required product.
There are some examples are given below for your better understanding -
Example.1) Multiply 3/10 by 3
3
Ans.) ------ X 3
10
3 3
= ------- X -------
10 1
[Multiply the numerator by 3 and denominator by 1]
3 X 3
= ----------
10 X 1
9
= ------ [The proper fraction is the answer here.]
10
So, the desired result is 9/10 (Ans.)
11
Example.2) Multiple ------- by 12
18
11
Ans.) ------- X 12
18
11 12
= ------- X -------
18 1
[STEP 1: Multiply the numerator by 12 and denominator by 1]
11 X 12
= -----------
18 X 1
132
= --------
18
132 ÷ 6
= ----------- [STEP 2: Reduce to lowest term]
18 ÷ 6
22
= --------
3
[STEP 3: Convert the improper fraction to mixed number as the denominator is smaller than the numerator.]
Reminder
Quotient = -------------
Divisor
1
= 7 ------
3
1
The product is 7 ------ (Ans.)

Example.3) Find the product of 7------ and 7
5
3
Ans.) 7------ X 7
5
38
= ------- X 7 [STEP 1: Convert to improper fractions]
5
38 7
= -------- X -------
5 1
[STEP 2: Multiply the numerator by 7 and denominator by 1]
38 X 7
= ----------
5 X 1
266
= -------
5
[STEP 3: Convert the improper fraction to mixed number as the denominator is smaller than the numerator.]
Reminder
Quotient = ------------
Divisor
1
= 53------
