INTRODUCTION OF FRACTION -
If x & y are two natural numbers then, the form of the numbers x/y is called fraction, and in this fraction x is ‘Numerator’, and y is called ‘ Denominator’.
To get a fraction equivalent to a given fraction, we multiply or divide the ‘Numerator’ and the ‘Denominator’ of the given fraction by the same natural number.
EQUIVALENT FRACTION –
Equivalent fraction is nothing but the fraction which is divided by the same natural numbers to ‘Denominator’ and at the same time to ‘Numerator’ and similarly to multiply by the same natural number to ‘Denominator’ and at the same time ‘Numerator’ too.
Example-
1 x 2
If we multiply 1/3 by 2, then the fraction will be = -----------
3 x 2
2
= ------- = 2/6
6
1 x 3
If we multiply 1/3 by 3, then the fraction will be = -----------
3 x 3
3
= ------- = 3/9
9
1 x 4
If we multiply 1/3 by 4, then the fraction will be = -----------
3 x 4
4
= -------- = 4/12

1 x 5
If we multiply 1/3 by 5, then the fraction will be = -----------
3 x 5
5

1 x 6
If we multiply 1/3 by 6, then the fraction will be = ----------
3 x 6
6
= ------- = 6/18

OR
In the case of simplification of fraction ‘Denominator’ and ‘Numerator’ of fraction is divided by the same natural number.-

Q1.) Please find out the equivalent fraction of 3/8 with ‘numerator’ 24
3
Ans.) If ------ is the fraction and ‘Numerator’ should be 24
8
Step.1) First divide 24 by ‘Numerator’ 3 obtained from given fraction.
24 ÷ 3 = 8, here 8 is ‘Quotient’
Step.2) Multiply ‘Numerator’ & ‘Denominator’ of given fraction by quotient 8
3 x 8 24
= --------- = ------- (Ans.)
8 x 8 64
Q2.) Please find out equivalent fraction of 6/8 with ‘Denominator’ 32
6
Ans.) If ------ is the fraction and ‘Denominator’ should be 32
8
Step.1) First divide 32 by ‘Denominator’ 8 obtained from the given fraction. 32 ÷ 8 = 4 , where 4 is ‘Quotient’
Step.2) Multiply ‘Numerator’ & ‘Denominator’ of given fraction by quotient 4
6 x 4 24
= --------- = ------- (Ans.)
8 x 4 32
Q3.) Please find out the equivalent fraction of 5/13 with ‘Denominator’ 65
5
Ans.) If ------- is the fraction and ‘Denominator’ should be 65
13
Step.1) First divide 65 by ‘Denominator’ 13 obtained from a given fraction. 65 ÷ 13 = 5, where 5 is ‘Quotient’
Step.2) Multiply ‘Numerator’ & ‘Denominator’ of given fraction by quotient 5
5 x 5 25
= --------- = ------- (Ans.)
13 x 5 65
Q4.) Please find out the equivalent fraction of 7/9 with ‘Numerator’ 63
7
Ans.) If, ------ is the fraction and ‘Numerator’ should be 63
9
Step.1) First divide 63 by ‘Numerator’ 7 obtained from the given the fraction. 63 ÷ 7 = 9, where 9 is ‘Quotient’
Step.2) Multiply ‘Numerator’ & ‘Denominator’ of given fraction by quotient 9
7 x 9 63
= --------- = ------ (Ans.)
9 x 9 81
