CONSTRUCTION OF CIRCLE OF GIVEN RADIUS

CONSTRUCTION OF CIRCLE OF GIVEN RADIUS -

Constructing a circle of a given radius can be done using a compass and a straightedge. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Materials Needed:-

  1. Compass
  2. Straightedge (ruler)

Procedure:-

  1. Draw the Centre Point:- Use the straightedge to draw a straight line. This will be the diameter of your circle. Mark a point on this line as the centre of your circle. This is where you'll place the compass point.
  2. Set the Compass:- Open the compass to the desired radius. The radius is the distance from the centre of the circle to any point on its circumference.
  3. Draw the Circle:- Place the compass point on the centre you marked. Keeping the compass steady, draw a circle around the centre. The pencil or pen should move with the compass as it pivots around the centre.
  4. Label the Circle:- You may label the circle with its radius r.
  5. Check the Radius:- Measure the distance from the centre to any point on the circumference of the circle using the compass. It should be equal to the desired radius.

By following these steps, you'll be able to construct a circle with the specified radius. The key is to ensure that the compass is set to the correct radius and that you maintain a steady hand while drawing the circle.

A circle is a combination of points such that every point is equidistant from the centre.

Problem.1) Draw a circle of radius 3.2 cms.

Ans.)

Open the compasses and measure a distance of 3.2 cm on the ruler. To do this one, metal end tip of the compass should be placed at zero and the pencil should be at 3.2 cms.

Geometry

o   Mark a point with a sharp pencil where we want the centre of the circle to be. Name it as O.

o  Place the pointer ( metal tip) of the compasses on O. The width of the compass should not be altered.

o  Turn the compasses slowly to draw the circle. Please see that the movement is completed around in one instant.

Problem.2) Draw any circle and mark points A, B and C such that (a) A is on the circle. (b) B is in the interior of the circle.

(c) C is in the exterior of the circle.

Ans.)

On the circle means, the point is on the boundary of the circle. Interior means it is inside the circle and exterior means the point is outside the circle.
