PICTOGRAPH - PROBLEM & SOLUTION
Example.1) The pictograph below shows the number of marks obtained 6 students in their math exam out of 100 total marks.
Answer the following question -
i) How many marks did Ali get?
ii) Who got 100 out of 100 marks?
iii) How many more marks did Sara score than Zara?
iv) Who got 10 less than 100 marks?
v) Name of the students who score 60 marks in exam ?
vi) Who scored least marks in the exam?
Ans.) Please note 1 star = 10 marks
Ali got 5 stars
So, Ali gets the marks = (5 X 10) marks = 50 marks.........(i) (Ans.)
If we want to find the person who score 100 then, we should consider highest star scorer, which is 100/10 = 10 stars.
So, we can observe that only Marry who is there who have scored 10 stars. 10 stars X 10 marks = 100 marks.
Marry has scored 100 marks. ......................(ii) (Ans.)
Sara got 9 stars, so she has scored = (9 stars X 10 marks) = 90 marks
Zara got 2 stars, so Zara scored = (2 stars X 10 marks) = 20 marks
Difference between marks obtained by Sara & Zara is = (90 - 20) = 70 marks
So, Sara scores 70 marks more than Zara..............(iii) (Ans.)
10 less than 100 marks = (100 - 10) = 90 marks
Sara got 9 stars, so she got = (9 stars X 10 marks)
= 90 marks .............(iv) (Ans.)
To find out the person who scored 60 marks, first need to understand how many stars required to score 60 marks. That is 60/10 = 6 marks
We can observe that, Gabriel & Ahmed both has scored 60 marks as they have score 6 stars. ...............(v) (Ans.)
Zara score least marks as because she has got most less number of stars which is 2.
So, 2 stars = (2 X 10) = 20 marks.............(vi) (Ans.)
Example.2) Jake recorded the number of pizzas sold over five days. Read the chart and answer the question.
i) How many pizzas did he sale on Thursday?
ii) Which day did he sale least pizzas?
iii) Which day did he sale highest pizzas?
iv) Which day he did sale 25 pizzas?
v) How many pizzas did he sale on Monday & Friday?
vi) Were more pizzas sold on Wednesday Or Friday?
vii) How many less pizzas were sold on Friday than Thursday?
viii) How many pizzas did he sales in 5 days?
Ans.) As we know from picture, 1 pic = 5 pizza
On Thursday pizza sold 8 pic X 5 = 40 pizza .............(i) (Ans.)
Wednesday he sale least pizza, because on that day there were shown 4 pic of pizza. (4 pic X 5) = 20 pizza .................(ii) (Ans.)
Tuesday he sale highest pizza, because on that day there were shown 9 pic of pizza. (9 pic X 5) = 45 pizza .................(ii) (Ans.)
To sale 25 pizzas, he need to get 25/5 = 5 pics. We can observe on Monday he has got 5 pics. So, Monday he has sold 25 pizzas........(iv) (Ans.)
Monday he has sold, 5 pic X 5 = 25 pizzas, and on Friday he has sale 6 pic X 5 = 30 pizzas . Put together he has sold on Monday + Friday = (25 + 30) = 55 ...............(v) (Ans.)
Wednesday he has sold, 4 pic X 5 = 20 pizzas, and on Friday he has sale 6 pic X 5 = 30 pizzas . So, on Friday he has sold maximum pizzas compare to Wednesday. He has sold 30 - 20 = 10 pizza more on Friday compare to Wednesday ...............(vi) (Ans.)
He has sold pizzas on Friday = 6 pic X 5 = 30 pizzas, and on Thursday = 8 pics X 5 = 40 pizzas. He has sold less 40 - 30 = 10 pizzas on Friday compare to Thursday........................(vii) (Ans.)
He sold pizzas on Monday = 5 pics X 5 = 25 pizzas
He sold pizzas on Tuesday = 9 pics X 5 = 45 pizzas
He sold pizzas on Wednesday = 4 pics X 5 = 20 pizzas
He has sold on Thursday = 8 pics X 5 = 40 pizzas
He has sold on Friday = 6 pics X 5 = 30 pizzas
In these five days he has sold total = (25 + 45 + 20 + 40 + 30)
= 160 pizzas..........(viii) (Ans.)
