PROBLEM & SOLUTION ON DISCOUNT -
Example.1) A car dealer mark a car at $24500 and agree to give discount of 8%.
Find - i) The amount of discount on car
ii) The selling price of the car
8
And.) Amount of discount of 8% = $24500 X ------- = $1960.........(i)
100
Sell price of the car = Marked price (M.P) - Discount
= $24500 - $1960 = $22540 ............(ii) (Ans.)
Example.2) A shopkeeper buys his watch $400 and marks its price upto 25% of its cost price. He allows 12% discount on marked price. Find -
i) The market price of the watch
ii) The amount of discount given by the shopkeeper
iii) The price the customer has to pay
Ans.)
Cost Price (C.P) of the watch for the shopkeeper = $400
Since the price is marked up by 25%
25
So, increased in price = $400 X ------- = $100 .............(i) (Ans.)
100
So, Marked Price (M.K) = Cost Price (C.P) + Increase in price
= $400 + $100 = $500 .............(ii) (Ans.)
Now, the new price of the product is $500.
As per the given condition, customer will pay the price with 12% discount.
12
So, discounted amount is = $500 X ------- = $60 ............(iii) (Ans.)
100
Example.3) A dealer allow 14% discount on the market price of an article. Find the market price of the article if the selling price is $645.
Ans.) Let the market price off the article is $Z.
As per the given condition, Sell price (S.P) is $645 and discount given 14%.
Let the mark price of the article is $Z, then -
14 7
Discount 14% of $X is = $(------- X Z) = $ ------ Z
100 50
7
Sale Price (SP) = Marked Price (MP) - Discount = $(Z - ------ Z)
50
50 - 7 43
= $ (--------) Z = $ ------ Z
50 50
As per the given condition -
43
$ ------ Z = $645
50
645 X 50
Z = $ ------------ = $(15 X 50) = $ 750
43
Hence the marked price of the article is $750. (Ans.)
