CLASS-7
ADDITION OF INTEGERS
ADDITION OF INTEGERS -
Adding integers depends on their signs. Here are the basic rules:
1. Adding Integers with the Same Sign:-
- Both Positive:- Add the numbers and keep the positive sign.
Example:-
4 + 3 = 7
- Both Negative:- Add the numbers and keep the negative sign.
Example:-
(−5) + (−2) = −7
2. Adding Integers with Different Signs:-
- Subtract the smaller absolute value from the larger absolute value.
- Keep the sign of the number with the larger absolute value.
Examples:-
- 7 + (−3) = 4 (Since 7 − 3 = 4 and 7 is positive, the answer is positive.)
- −8 + 5 = −3 (Since 8 − 5 = 3 and 8 is negative, the answer is negative.)
3. Special Cases:-
- Adding Zero:- Any number plus zero remains the same.
Example:-
6 + 0 = 6
- Adding Opposites (Additive Inverse):- A number plus its opposite (negative counterpart) always equals zero.
Example:-
9 + (−9) = 0
