CONVERSION OF PERCENTAGE TO FRACTION

CONVERSION OF PERCENTAGE TO FRACTION -

Converting a percentage to a fraction is a straightforward process that involves a few simple steps. Here's how you can do it:

Steps to Convert a Percentage to a Fraction:-

    1. Write the Percentage as a Fraction:-

Start by writing the percentage as a fraction with a denominator of 100. For example,

75% can be written as 75/100.

    2. Simplify the Fraction:-

Simplify the fraction by dividing both the numerator (top number) and the denominator (bottom number) by their greatest common divisor (GCD).

For example, 75/100 simplifies to 3/4 by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by 25.

                   75           75 ÷ 25           3

               -------- = ------------ = -------

                  100          100 ÷ 25          4

Example.1)  Convert 40% to a Fraction

Step 1:- Write the percentage as a fraction:

                              40

                   40% = -------

                             100

Step 2:- Simplify the fraction:

  • The greatest common divisor (GCD) of 40 and 100 is 20.

                   40          40 ÷ 20          2

        40% = ------- = ----------- = -------

                  100         100 ÷ 20         5

So, 40% as a fraction is 2/5.        (Ans.)

Example 2: Convert 12.5% to a Fraction

Step 1: Write the percentage as a fraction:-

                          12.5

             12.5% = --------

                          100

Step 2: Eliminate the decimal by multiplying both the numerator and denominator by 10:-

                          12.5         125

             12.5% = -------- = --------

                          100          1000

Step 3: Simplify the fraction:-

  • The greatest common divisor (GCD) of 125 and 1000 is 125

                     12.5         125 ÷ 125          1

         12.5% = ------- = -------------- = ------

                      100        1000 ÷ 125          8

So, 12.5% as a fraction is 1/8.      (Ans.)

Example 3: Convert 25% to a Fraction

Step 1: Write the percentage as a fraction:-

                        25

             25% = -------

                       100

Step 2: Simplify the fraction:-

  • The greatest common divisor (GCD) of 25 and 100 is 25.

                      25          25 ÷ 25          1

           25% = ------- = ------------ = ------

                     100         100 ÷ 25          4

So, 25% as a fraction is 1/4.      (Ans.)

Summery:-

To convert a percentage to a fraction, write the percentage over 100, and then simplify the fraction by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by their greatest common divisor. This method allows you to express percentages as fractions, which can be useful in various mathematical contexts.
