CONVERSION OF PERCENTAGE TO RATIO

CONVERSION OF PERCENTAGE TO RATIO -

Converting a percentage to a ratio involves a few straightforward steps. The goal is to express the percentage as a ratio of two numbers, typically in the form a : b.

Steps to Convert a Percentage to a Ratio:-

   1. Express the Percentage as a Fraction:-

Start by writing the percentage as a fraction with a denominator of 100.

For example, 75% can be written as 75/100.

   2. Simplify the Fraction:-

Simplify the fraction by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD).

For example, 75/100 simplifies to 3/4 by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by 25.

   3. Express the Fraction as a Ratio:-

Write the simplified fraction as a ratio, using a colon (:).

For example, 3/4 can be written as the ratio 3 : 4.

Example 1: Convert 60% to a Ratio

Step 1:  Express the percentage as a fraction:-

                                     60

                         60% = --------

                                    100

Step 2:  Simplify the fraction:-

  • The greatest common divisor (GCD) of 60 and 100 is 20.

                 60          60 ÷ 20          3

             -------- = ----------- = ------

                100         100 ÷ 20         5

Step 3:  Express as a ratio:-

So, 60% as a ratio is 3 : 5.          (Ans.)

Example 2: Convert 25% to a Ratio

Step 1: Express the percentage as a fraction:-

                            25

             25% = ----------

                           100

Step 2: Simplify the fraction:-

  • The GCD of 25 and 100 is 25.

          25           25 ÷ 25           1

      -------- = ------------ = -------

         100          100 ÷ 25          4

Step 3: Express as a ratio:-

So, 25% as a ratio is 1 : 4.     (Ans.)

Summery:-

To convert a percentage to a ratio, write the percentage as a fraction with a denominator of 100, simplify the fraction, and then express the simplified fraction as a ratio using a colon. This method is useful for comparing quantities in a different form, such as when you need to express relationships in ratios rather than percentages.
