A Quantity as a Percentage of Another
To express a given quantity as a percentage of another quantity of the same kind, divide the given quantity by the other and multiply the result by 100 and add the % sign
A
A = ( ---------- X 100 ) % of B
B
Example.1)
If there are 1600 students in a school and pass out students of a particular year is 1250, then find out the percentage of pass out of students.
Ans.) As per the given condition, there are 1400 students has passed out of 1600 students,
If, out of 1600 students passed only 1400 students
Then, out of 1 students passed only = 1400 / 1600
1400
Now, out of 100 students passed only = ---------- X 100
1600
1400
= -----------
16
= 87.5 %
So, now we can conclude that there pass out rate of that school of that particular year is 87.5 % (Ans.)
Example.2)
If there are 2000 students in a school and pass out students of particular year is 1500, then find out the percentage of students who failed.
Ans.) As per the given condition, there are 1500 students has passed out of 2000 students,
So, number student was failed = 2000 – 1500 = 500
If, out of 2000 students failed only 500 students
Then, out of 1 student failed only = 500 / 2000
500
Now, out of 100 students passed only = ----------- X 100
2000
50
= --------
2
= 25 %
So, now we can conclude that their failure rate of that school of that particular year is 25 % (Ans.)
