AREA, PERIMETER, AND DIAGONAL OF SQUARE -
For a Square with side a units, we have –
a) Perimeter = (4 X Side) = 4 a units
b) Area = (side)² = a² sq. units
1
c) Area = ------ X (Diagonal)² sq. units
2
d) Diagonal = √a² + a² units = √2a² units = √2 a units = √2 X Area units
Example.) The length of the diagonal of a square is 24 m. Find i) the area of square, ii) its perimeter upto three decimal places.
1
Ans.) i) the area of square = ------- X (diagonal)²
2
1
= ----- X 24 X 24 = 288 cm²
2
ii) sides of the square = √288 = 16.970 cm
so, its perimeter = 16.970 X 4 = 67.882 cm (Ans.)
